Ingredients

Ćupavci are delicious chocolate-coconut squares that are very popular as a dessert in the Balkans. With this recipe, they can easily be made at home.

1 tsp butter, for greasing the pan
350 g desiccated coconut

Ingredients for the batter
4 eggs
240 g sugar
250 g flour
1 packet baking powder
125 ml oil (e.g., sunflower oil)
125 ml milk

Ingredients for the glaze
400 g chocolate
190 g sugar
510 ml milk
60 g butter

Preparation

To make delicious Ćupavci, preheat the oven to 180°C (top and bottom heat) and grease a small, deep baking tray with butter.

Separate the eggs and beat the egg whites in a bowl until stiff peaks form.

In a separate bowl, beat the egg yolks with the sugar until very light and fluffy. Briefly stir in the milk and oil.

Mix the flour with the baking powder, stir it briefly into the wet ingredients, and finally gently fold in the beaten egg whites.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake in the preheated oven for about 30 minutes. If necessary, do the toothpick test at the end of the baking time.

Remove the finished cake from the oven, let it cool completely, and then cut it into even cubes.

For the glaze, break the chocolate into large pieces, place it in a saucepan with the sugar, and melt slowly over low heat, stirring constantly. Then pour in the milk.

Bring the chocolate milk to a boil while continuing to stir. Once it starts boiling, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly. Finally, stir in the butter until melted.

Place the desiccated coconut in a shallow bowl, dip the cake cubes into the glaze, and then roll them in the coconut.

Finally, let the Ćupavci dry and enjoy.
